Art Therapy

Explore the visual arts as a means to connect with yourself and navigate the challenges in your way!

Art Therapy is a mental health profession in which clients (both children and adults) – facilitated by the Art Therapist – use art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem.

American Art Therapy Association

Grow Wellness Group’s therapists use an integrated art program to reduce the client’s resistance to psychotherapy, thus opening new creative possibilities for therapeutic intervention. In many cases where clients struggle to identify and process their own emotions, art therapy is an ideal way of self-expression, achieving greater self awareness and self restoration. Art therapy, as a therapeutic modality, involves visual and verbal processing that gives the therapist unique insight and amazing tools to reach the core issues. Our therapists are able to explore the client’s negative patterns and set forth a new way to approach difficult situations.

How does it work

Art therapy consists of creating many different kinds of art and then processing the total experience through individual and group therapy. Clients are able to creatively communicate in a safe manner, sharing their inner thoughts and fears in an emotionally safe zone. The use of art expression allows our clients to safely reflect how they see the world through their art. In addition, clients are able to explain the way the see themselves, and how they think others see them; safely conveying the tough issues that have derailed their emotional growth. Art therapy allows clients to share and understand things about themselves that they might otherwise find difficult to express
