McKenzie Altmayer, MA, LPC, NCC, SPC

McKenzie is an experienced therapist and Sport Performance Consultant who enjoys working with athletes to support them in processing the emotional experience within athletics and how mental health can impact sports performance. For all clients, McKenzie seeks to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where people can be heard, validated, and understood.

McKenzie Altmayer attended Bradley University for both undergraduate and graduate schooling, and while at Bradley she competed as a Division 1 athlete in both cross country and track. Her undergraduate degrees are in English, creative writing, and women’s and gender studies. She also holds a masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Impacted by her own experience in sport, McKenzie understands the feelings of perfectionism, dedication, and internal/external pressures that come with being an athlete. She believes in the internal strength each person possesses to work through stressors and hardship within life and sport and looks to bolster self-assurance and confidence. She also recognizes how important it is to understand one’s athletic identity and how that can impact their life inside and outside of sport. Supporting all aspects of one’s identity, not just as an athlete, is something McKenzie prioritizes in her work.

In working with athletes, McKenzie utilizes a Strengths-Based, Client-Centered approach as well as incorporating mindfulness practices, coping skills, and goal setting. She also believes in processing the emotional experience within athletics and how mental health can impact sports performance. For all clients, McKenzie seeks to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where people can be heard, validated, and understood.
