Susan Riley is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Over the past 15 years I have been able to enhance my understanding of trauma with training as an EMDR practitioner. In addition, I have done work with anxiety and depression issues, navigating grief and loss, and other stress-related issues. Using a cognitive behavioral and emotional approach with a systems framework is the foundation of my therapeutic style.
I completed my Masters in Counseling at Northeastern Illinois University and as an intern and a new counselor I specialized in trauma and co-occurring disorders. I also completed domestic violence training some years ago and have worked with women who have had to deal with this issue, sometimes when they are still living with the abusive partner.
Counseling is a tremendous collaborative effort between the counselor and the client. The process is one of gathering memories, impressions, core beliefs, and gaining an understanding of the individual systems which the client has navigated, often from a very early age.
